Big changes are happening at Kwest. We are upgrading the training floor with brand-new, professional-grade mats. After 19 years and the addition of Jiu-Jitsu, we’re upgrading to pro-grade mats that elevate Jiu-Jitsu performance and make Muay Thai sessions smoother and safer. If you train Muay Thai, Boxing, or Jiu-Jitsu in Winnipeg, you will feel the difference the moment you step on the floor. Movement feels smoother, traction is more consistent, and the training surface is cleaner.

Our primary goal was improving the conditions for Jiu-Jitsu athletes to train on while not sacrificing the training surface for our Muay Thai and Boxing athletes. We  selected 1 5/8″ PVC-surfaced mats to support Jiu-Jitsu and enhance Muay Thai training. Mat space increases to 2,600 sq ft, with an additional 2,500 sq ft of open floor. These mats will give excellent shock absorption for throws and takedowns and a stable, grippy platform for passing, pinning, and scrambles. The same construction provides crisp pivots and confident footwork for Muay Thai, with a smooth surface that is easy to sanitize and maintain.

We did our homework before making this change, comparing materials, textures, and density options to find the balance that works for both striking and grappling. You can read more about what goes into high-quality mats in The Essential Guide to MMA Mats from MyMMANews, which explains how different surfaces affect protection, performance, and longevity.
