Tonight’s class will focus on the core. As you mentally prepare for class tonight, here are some tips to consider in regards to your training overall.
To prepare your body and increase your conditioning you should try to train in explosive sets. A lot of people will start a stamina drill with the mindset of conserving energy and pacing themselves evenly all the way through. This is not indicative of preparing yourself for a fight or a self-defense situation. In order to perform at high levels in either situation one must put maximum effort in for as long as possible and THEN rest. For example, if you were asked to do 100 repititons of cross/hook/round kick, approach each combination with the serious intent of doing damage using maximum force and speed. Continue this until fatigued, then rest in a fighting stance posture until you are able to continue again. Even the most well conditioned athlete should only be able to do 5 – 10 reps at this intensity level, any more and you are not using full power and/or speed.
This psychological shift in the way you train can put you light years ahead of training partners you spar with or competitors you fight with. Fighting is about in and outs, explosiveness, speed – if you train the way you should fight then you will become a strong fighter.
From the fitness perspective this type of training is really effective for losing weight, increasing fast twitch response rates, improving aerobic capacity and endurance.
